The Bank of Elk River offers 30 year Adjustable Rate and 10 year Fixed Rate, in-house mortgages for our customers. We also work with a vendor for other first mortgage products, including but not limited to, Construction, Conventional, and FHA. Whether you’re a first time home buyer, buying that dream home or lake property, refinancing your home to reduce your monthly mortgage payments or purchasing investment property, we want to help you find the right program for your needs. Find out how much you can afford The first step in obtaining a mortgage is to determine the type and amount of loan for which you qualify for. In the case of buying a home, it is extremely beneficial to determine how much home you can afford even before you begin looking. In doing so, you will be able to have an accurate price point when you are looking for the right home and will be able to begin to establish an accurate budget for homeownership. By completing a mortgage application and gathering a few items, you can be pre-qualified to purchase your new home! When should I refinance? It is often said that you should refinance when mortgage rates are 1% lower than the rate you currently have on your loan. This is not always the case. Refinancing may be a good option even if the interest rate difference is minimal. Also, you may not be in the best mortgage product for your current financial situation. For example, you might have an ARM (adjustable rate mortgage) and now you might be better off with a Fixed Rate Mortgage. We can help determine if refinancing is the best option for you at this time. In house mortgages The in-house mortgages are kept at the bank as part of our loan portfolio. Payments for this type of loan can be made at any of our locations. Ready Reserve is a revolving line of credit available with your Bank of Elk River checking account. It gives you financial freedom as well as the security of overdraft protection. Benefits Advances are automatically made in $200 increments when the checking account balance falls below zero. Ready Reserve can prevent overdraft fees and checks being returned on your checking account. Unsecured credit limits range from $200 to $5,000, depending on your credit qualifications. Monthly payments are drawn automatically from the checking account 24 days after your monthly statement cycle. The payment amount is determined by the Ready Reserve unpaid balance. You can write yourself a loan from your checking account to pay bills or make purchases. Once your application is approved and an agreement is signed, your Ready Reserve is activated. How can I use Ready Reserve? By simply writing a check, you advance funds that can be used to take a vacation, buy something special, or cover unexpected expenses. Whenever funds are advanced, you will be mailed an Advice of Transaction to enter into your checking register as a deposit. If your checking account balance would go below $0, an automatic advance would be made in increments of $200 (unless under $200 is available). How do I repay the advance(s)? You can make a payment or pay off your balance at any time by notifying us in person, by phone, or through online banking. If an unpaid balance remains when your monthly checking statement cycles, an automatic payment will be deducted according to the following schedule: Balance Owed Monthly Payment $0 to 24.99 Entire balance $25 to 499.99 $25 $500 to 749.99 $40 $750 to 999.99 $60 $1,000 to 1,499.99 $90 Balances over $1,500 will have higher payment requirements. What is the cost for Ready Reserve? There is no interest fee for Ready Reserve unless there is a balance. It earns interest on balances owed, which is 18% APR*. So, if you never use your Ready Reserve, you will never have to pay any interest. There is a $25.00 Annual Fee. Ready Reserve Application NOTE: AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED BY ALL SIGNERS ON THE CHECKING ACCOUNT. * The finance charge is determined by the amount advanced and number of days you use the funds. The finance charge is computed at the daily periodic rate of .04931%, which is equivalent to an annual percentage rate of 18%.

Certificates of Deposit are a form of savings also known as a time deposit or "CD." Funds are deposited with the bank for a specified period of time. The bank will pay a rate of interest that is based on the term of the certificate. All certificates are automatically renewable. There is a seven-day grace period after the maturity date to cash the certificate. A penalty may be imposed by the bank for early withdrawal. The interest paid may be compounded or simple. Features & Benefits Interest rates on certificates of deposit are higher than on other types of savings accounts. Simple interest may be paid monthly or quarterly, by check or into a checking or savings account, at our bank or at another bank by ACH. Compound interest is added quarterly to the principal on 12-60 month certificates and is received at maturity. The actual return is referred to as the Annual Percentage Yield (APY). Certificates of deposit make excellent collateral for loans. Maturity notices, renewal notices, and year-end statements are mailed. Interest rates for new and renewing certificates may change at any time at the Bank's discretion. Current rate information is posted on TVs in our lobbies and on our website. Guaranteed rate of return and FDIC insurance provides a safe, risk-free investment for personal funds, retirement funds (IRA), or business funds. Most certificates of deposit require a $200 minimum deposit. Terms range from 91 days to 60 months. Added Advantage certificates of deposit require a $2,500 minimum deposit. Terms are 18 or 30 months. The 18-month term includes a one time option to increase the rate to our current posted rate, and the 30 month has a two-time option to increase the rate. At the same time a rate is increased, you may add $1,000 or more to the same CD for the remainder of the term. Early withdrawal penalties range from 30 days interest to 365 days interest depending on CD type. A minimum early withdrawal penalty of $25 will apply to all CD types.
Enjoy peace of mind that comes with access to multi-million-dollar FDIC insurance and choose the service or combination of services that best meet your needs for returns and access to funds. When you place a deposit through CDARS® service, that deposit is divided into amounts under the standard FDIC insurance maximum of $250,000 and is placed in demand deposit accounts, money market deposit accounts or CDs at multiple banks. As a result, you can access coverage from many institutions while directly working with The Bank of Elk River. Traditional IRA IRA stands for Individual Retirement Account. An IRA is a trust account that is designed for individuals to save for retirement. The Bank of Elk River is the custodian for these trust accounts and we are responsible for administering the account, which includes record keeping and required IRS tax reporting. As the name implies, this account has only one owner and an application is required. The application will name the owner (with their personal information such as social security number, address, date of birth) and also any primary or secondary beneficiaries. The contingent beneficiary will become the recipient of the IRA funds if the owner is deceased. The secondary beneficiary(ies) becomes the owner(s) if the primary beneficiary predeceases the IRA owner. Roth IRA A Roth IRA is an individual retirement plan that bears many similarities to the traditional IRA, but contributions are not tax deductible and qualified distributions are tax-free. Similar to other retirement plan accounts, non-qualified distributions from a Roth IRA may be subject to a penalty upon withdrawal. Simplified Employee Pension Plan A Simplified Employee's Pension Plan (SEP) is one form of a retirement plan available to employers. Employers with few or no employees may prefer this plan because it is simple to establish and maintain. Each eligible employee establishes a SEP/IRA account and the employer makes the contribution to the account. Once the SEP/IRA account is established, the account follows the same rules as a traditional IRA. Coverdell Education Savings Account Depending on income qualifications, you may be able to establish a Coverdell Education Savings Account (CESA) to finance the qualified education expenses of a designated beneficiary. There is no limit on the number of separate CESAs that can be established for a designated beneficiary. However, total contributions for the beneficiary in any year cannot be more than $2,000, no matter how many accounts have been established. This benefit applies not only to higher education expenses but also to elementary and secondary education expenses. Sources: IRS, Investopedia, The Bank of Elk River

There are a number of ways to help guard against unauthorized use of your account and protect your identity: - Your computer can be a goldmine of personal information to an identity thief. Install and update your anti-virus and anti-spyware software frequently. Computer viruses can have damaging effects, including introducing program code that causes your computer to send out files or other stored information. - Never open or download attachments from unverified or unknown sources. - Use a firewall. The firewall allows you to limit uninvited access to your computer. Without a firewall, hackers can take over your computer and access sensitive information. - Choose a good password! Carefully select a password that is hard to guess and never use a word that can be found in the dictionary. - Your password is designated to protect the privacy of your banking information. If you think your password has been compromised, change it immediately and then contact the bank at 763.441.1000. - Once you finish your online banking sessions, be sure to log out. If anyone else has access to your computer, clear your browser's cache in order to eliminate copies of web pages that have been stored on your hard drive. Avoid using public Internet access terminals when conducting your online banking. - Sign up for eStatements, direct deposit and World Wide Banker Bill Pay for convenient and secure paperless options.

Retail data breaches continue to headline the news. With the big data breaches comes a bumper crop of stolen card information that is readily available to purchase by criminals on the black market. While there is not a lot the ordinary consumer can do to eliminate a compromise to their card after a retail data breach, there are a few steps you can take to at least cut down on your risk. - As soon as you receive your new card, call to activate it, and sign the back. - Review your account statements when you get them. Better yet, sign up for electronic banking to get secure online access to your account day or night. Report any problems or questions, including transactions you think may be unauthorized, right away. Quick action can limit misuse. - Set your account up to receive alerts either by email or by text. You can choose the parameters of certain types of transactions you would like to be alerted to with The Bank of Elk River's Text Banking service. - If your card is lost or stolen, report it right away to 763.441.1000. - Protect your card the same as you would cash, checks, or credit cards. No one else should use your card. - Keep your PIN a secret. Do not write your PIN on anything in your wallet. Never let a cashier or anyone else enter your PIN for you. Never give debit card information to anyone over the phone unless you initiate the call. - Always shield your PIN with your hand to prevent someone from stealing it, especially at an ATM or debit terminal. Be aware of your surroundings before using a terminal. - Always keep your debit card in sight when conducting transactions at the checkout. - Make sure your debit or ATM transaction is complete and review your receipt before leaving the terminal. - Have your card ready when using ATMs. Spend as little time as possible when using ATMs and be aware of any suspicious activity in the area. - If anyone follows you after conducting a transaction, go to a crowded, well-lit area and call the police. Keep your cell phone readily available during ATM transactions.
Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal identifying information, such as your name, Social Security number or debit/credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. The Federal Trade Commission has online guidance about the steps consumers can take to protect themselves against identity theft. For more information about identity theft, visit the FTC website. Here are some tips on how you can prevent ID theft: - Shred financial documents no longer needed, pre-approved credit offers, receipts and other paperwork that may contain financial and personal information. - Retrieve and review your mail promptly. Deposit outgoing mail with checks enclosed in a post office blue collection box or at your local post office instead of an unsecured mailbox. - Protect your Social Security number. Don’t carry your Social Security card in your wallet or write your number on a check.
